With the recent iPhone launch, all the focus is on the Duo; however, foldables aren’t the only new product category Apple is venturing into — game controllers could be next.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that Apple has been working on a gaming controller. Reportedly, Apple has been working on the controllers for iPhone for more than a year, and they may launch under the Beats brand.
On Apple’s website, you can already buy either the PS5’s DualSense, the SteelSeries Dual-Mode Cloud controller, or the Backbone series gamepads. But MacRumors dug into the macOS release code and found two hardware devices with controller components, supporting Gurman’s report.
With the Beats branding, Apple can explore making the controllers with more affordable parts and try out new styles. Ahead of launching a device like the iController Ultra with MagSafe or something (this isn’t a real product).
Gurman didn’t mention specific release timing for the device.
Considering rumours of a more powerful Apple TV and the iPhone Duo’s odd shape, it makes a lot of sense for Apple to develop its own controller(s). With the right positioning, both Apple TV and the iPhone Duo could be popular gaming devices.
