LG unlikely to make the Nexus 5, but wouldn’t turn down the opportunity

Though LG announced the upcoming availability of a white Nexus 4, the device internals are unchanged from the phone released in November of last year. In a smartphone universe that is an eternity, so naturally the next question to be asked was whether LG is building the upcoming Nexus 5, or whatever it will be called.

LG’s Won Kim intimated that the company “do not need such a marketing success again,” after being asked about the production issues and subsequent low availability that plagued the device early on. This sparked rumours that the company would indeed endeavour to create the next Nexus but with fewer hiccups.

Such elation was short-lived; another LG spokesman quashed the rumour immediately. “What Mr. Won Kim said is that we are not currently working on a Nexus 5, which is true. But that doesn’t mean we would turn down the opportunity.”

So either Google hasn’t reached out to any company about a new Nexus (unlikely) or they are going with another OEM this time around (more likely).

Whichever is the case you can be sure of three things this time around: the display will be 1080p; there will be an LTE option; there will be a 32GB version.
