Huawei to unveil first Windows Phone 8 device, Ascend W1, on September 25th: rumour

Among the four Windows Phone 8 launch partners, only HTC and Huawei have yet to unveil devices officially. The former is expected to show off the HTC 8X in New York on Wednesday, and rumours are pointing to a rollout of the Huawei Ascend W1 on September 25th.

Huawei’s bread and butter to this point has been in mid-range devices such as the Ascend P1 (available from Wind Mobile) but it has also dipped its toes into custom silicone with the K3V2 quad-core chip and the upcoming flagship Ascend D Android device.

It looks like the case may be similar with Huawei’s Windows Phone 8 offerings: a mid-range Ascend W1, priced around $300, and a more powerful W2 (or equivalent) with a HD screen and improved specs for significantly more. According to winp.cn, the device will be unveiled at an event on September 25th, and will come to market in November or December.

The site is also claiming that Acer and ZTE will be added to the Windows Phone 8 crowd in early 2013, as Microsoft looks to expand its offerings to lower-cost OEMs.
