Leak reveals complete Samsung Galaxy Note 7 specs and new Gear VR design

Samsung has confirmed its next Galaxy Note smartphone will be called the Note 7, not Note 6, in order to “unify our product portfolio, minimize confusion about the latest mobile technology and provide full alignment with Galaxy S smartphone.”

Today, days before its August 2nd unveiling in New York City, the complete specs of the upcoming Note 7 have leaked, as well as an image of the next iteration of Gear VR.

According to a report by tipster Steve Hemmerstoffer, who runs the French website nowhereelse.fr and the Twitter handle @OnLeaks, the Note 7 will feature a double curved-edge display, which confirms several other leaks. As for specs, the Note 7 will feature a 5.7-inch 2560 x 1440 pixel display, 2.3 GHz octa-core processor, 4GB of RAM, 64 GB ROM with microSD slot, 12 megapixel f/1.7 camera with OIS (optical image stabilization) that can shoot 4K video and 5 megapixel front-facing camera.

In addition, powering the Note 7 is a 3,500 mAh battery. Also  included is a USB Type-C port, in addition to a fingerprint sensor and iris scanner. Overall dimensions measure in at 153.5mm x 73.9mm x 7.9 mm with a weight of 168 grams. The device is also reportedly water and dustproof (IP68 certification). Finally, as with previous Galaxy Note devices, this model will come with an S Pen stylus, though several improvements are planned, according to Hemmerstoffer.

He states the Galaxy Note 7 will be available to purchase in early September.

The new Gear VR, minus its new black colour, looks much like the original consumer model. That said, it will feature a 110 degree viewing angle, up from the 96 degree angle found in the current model.

Specs-wise, the new GearVR has overall dimensions of 207mm x 122mm x 98.5mm (current model is 198mm x 116mm x 90mm) and will feature a USB Type-C connection with a weight of 300 grams. The report indicated this VR headset will be available for sale in August.
