Apple has officially unveiled the new OLED iPad mini.
While many expected to see it at the ‘Pro and Tell‘ event later this week, Apple decided sooner is better and has revealed the mini with its first-ever OLED screen and the thinnest body yet.
The iPad mini sports an 8.5-inch OLED display, and you can get the nano-texture option, similar to the latest iPad Pro. The mini has higher contrast and more than 2x higher peak brightness than the 2024 variant. Even though the 8.5-inch display is slightly larger than the previous mini, it takes up the same space thanks to 24 per cent thinner bezels.
The iPad mini is 5.4mm thin, which should be noticeably thinner than the iPad mini (2024). It also comes in ‘Starlight’ and ‘Midnight’ colour variants and sports an IP67 dust and water rating, so you can finally bring it with you into the bath.
The mini features the A20 Pro, similar to what’s in the iPhone 18 Pro series. With the chipset, your mini can handle things like gaming with ray tracing and hardware-accelerated mesh shading, and 3D rendering. You can expect faster speeds in everyday tasks too. And the 512GB version has a Dual 16-core Neural Engine for double the processing power.
The mini’s 12MP Center Stage is now on the landscape edge for FaceTime calls, and the back still has a 12MP camera with Smart HDR 4 and can capture videos at 4K at up to 60fps. There’s also a new Acoustic Display for a better audio experience.
And of course, the iPad mini is equipped with iPadOS 27, with Siri AI rolling out in beta. And of course, the mini supports both Apple Pencil USB-C and Apple Pencil Pro.
The iPad mini is available for pre-order on October 28 and is available for purchase on November 6. The iPad mini starts at $949 for the 128GB model.
