Your phone could show the wrong time thanks to DST changes

With several Canadian provinces ditching the clock change, Google shared support documents on how to fix your phone's time

Some Canadian regions are dropping the time change, which could cause problems with your tech.

Alberta, B.C., Manitoba, the Northwest Territories, and parts of Ontario will join Saskatchewan and the Yukon in not changing the clocks come November.

Because of that, people living in those areas may need to make adjustments to their Android phones and Google Calendar events, especially if you haven’t updated your phone in a while, since that’s how phones receive updated time zone rules.

Because of the time change that would normally occur, your time may appear one hour late on or after November 1. If you are seeing the wrong time, head to Settings, search for Date and Time, and use the settings there to adjust your time. Those using older phones that no longer receive updates may have to disable automatic time zones entirely and manually set the time.

Those affected by this may also have issues with Google Calendar, including seeing a warning badge on the calendar grid. When you open an event you’ve organized, you’ll see a banner that lets you move the event one hour earlier.

Google Calendar should automatically shift most affected events by one hour to their original scheduled local times. This fix applies to single events and recurring events that don’t have future exceptions, such as a single rescheduled instance.

Also, in-product banners and the one-click fixes only appear on the web version of Calendar, and won’t appear in the Calendar app for Android, iPhone and iPad.

To change calendar events, you have to be the organizer or have permission to “Make changes (see private events as free/busy)” to the organizer’s calendar.
