Chatr boosts data on $34 plan, cuts $39 price point

Chatr follows in the footsteps of other brands and gives its plans a data boost

Rogers-owned Chatr has boosted data on its $34 plan and dropped the $39 option in a plan shuffle that follows other sub-brands.

The changes are mainly occurring at the upper-level data options. Previously, Chatr offered both $34/60GB and $39/80GB plans, but it appears that the carrier has dumped the $39 plan, and has boosted the former to one $34/80GB option, with a 25GB bonus if you use Auto-Pay.

Now, while this boost is generally an improvement, I am a little bit surprised that they dumped the top-end price point instead of adding a 100GB option. Although Chatr technically has two options priced higher than it, they are yearly price points ($100/year for 400 minutes, $159/year for 40GB), and no other monthly plan is higher than it.

For now, Chatr’s other plans remain unchanged, and you can still select plans from the $19 unlimited Canada-wide talk and Canada/US/international text plan to this new $34/80GB Canada-wide talk and Canada/US/international plan.

Although these plans are pretty decent, you can get better for the money. While there is no boost on data, Freedom’s $35/80GB Canada/US/Mexico plan gives you much more value for the price (Roam Beyond, and Freedom’s 120-plus destination texting) while also currently offering a $40/100GB plan, something that Chatr doesn’t carry (as I previously mentioned).

If, for some reason, you still want to go with Chatr and don’t plan to travel or call anyone outside Canada, this plan is perfectly reasonable, especially if you use Auto Pay. You can find the plan on Chatr’s website.
