Fido has brought back its 10GB extra data bonus on a few of its bring-your-own-device (BYOD) plans to attract customers looking to switch from their current provider.
Now, the Rogers-owned brand offers the following plans with the extra 10GB:
- $45/10GB + 10GB 4G, unlimited Canada-wide talk/text, 500 international texts
- $50/40GB + 10GB 4G, unlimited Canada-wide talk/text, 500 international texts
- $55/60GB + 10GB 4G, unlimited Canada-wide talk/text, 1000 international texts
Another bonus about these plans is that they are also eligible for the $0 hotspot benefit that Fido brought back in August. However, it’s hardly a bonus when the company initially removed the useful feature to make a quick buck. Additionally, Fido has recently raised roaming rates and connection fees to $80 (though it waives those if you sign up online).
If you look beyond Fido, you’ll find better deals elsewhere. Freedom Mobile offers plans like the $39/60GB 5G Canada-U.S.-Mexico + Roam Beyond plan, with 5GB of data in 120+ destinations. There is also a $49/80GB 5G Canada-U.S.-Mexico + Roam Beyond plan that includes 15GB of data and unlimited talk/text in 120+ destinations.
There are also great options from Telus-owned Public Mobile, including the $40/60GB 5G Canada-U.S.-Mexico unlimited talk/text plan, which also includes unlimited international text and picture messaging. Public has a $50/80GB 5G Canada-U.S.-Mexico unlimited talk/text plan as well.
In summary, Fido’s plans, even with the bonus data, don’t really offer great value. If you are in the market for a new plan and are not sure who to go with, you can use MobileSyrup’s plan search tool to find the best deal.
