Instagram releases live video update allowing users to save broadcasts for later

Instagram Live Video

Instagram recently released a new feature that allows users to save live videos to their phones after they’re done broadcasting.

This update marks the first of many improvements coming to live videos on Instagram Stories this year. The live videos will disappear from the app once completed, though they will now allow users the option to save their broadcasts for later if they choose.

Users need only to tap Save in the top, right corner, and then tapping Done to download the video to their own device. Instagram live video is among the many attempts from social giant Facebook to repackage Snapchat’s winning video formula.

Instagram Live Video Screnshot

Facebook introduced its Live feature to the main platform last year, and has since rolled it out to its Instagram and Messenger platforms as well. Instagram first added live video to the platform this past December, though unlike Facebook’s iteration, more closely mimicked Snapchat by making videos disappear after the broadcast was complete.

Its newest update to the feature seems to offer an alternative to the original focus of disappearing video.
