GTA VI is starting to take over the GTA

GTA has come to Toronto in a big way.

This week, Torontonians have taken to social media to share images of Grand Theft Auto VI marketing across the city. The most prominent example is a GTA VI takeover of multiple big billboards at Yonge and Dundas, as seen in a video shared by the social media account GTA 6 Countdown. At the end of the video, we also see GTA VI marketing in the Bloor-Yonge TTC station.

It remains to be seen what other marketing efforts may come up for the game across Toronto or other parts of Canada. (It’s worth noting that developer Rockstar Games does actually have a Canadian office, Rockstar Toronto, which is based in Oakville. That said, it’s always been low-key about that location, even when people were protesting there last year over layoffs that Rockstar allegedly carried out as part of wider union-busting efforts.)

Either way, this increased marketing push will no doubt make the impending release of GTA VI feel all the more real for fans. After all, the game has been a long time coming, with GTA V having been released in 2013. GTA VI eventually entered early development in 2018 following the release of Red Dead Redemption II and was formally unveiled in 2023 following a major leak. After a couple of delays, the game will now finally launch on Nov. 19 for $109.99.

GTA VI is a Bonnie and Clyde-inspired tale of romantic duo Jason and Lucia as they engage in various criminal activities in the Florida-inspired U.S. state of Leonida. The game will be available on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S at launch, but not PC right away. Pre-loads on console begin on Nov. 10 and will eat up over 200GB of storage.
