At a Chinese launch event for the ZUK Z2 smartphone (which is not available in North America but sounds great), Lenovo CEO Yang Yuanqing stated Motorola will release a new device on June 9.
Lenovo did not confirm the identity of the device in question, but the obvious suspects are the Moto G4 and G4 Plus, which have been the subjects of many leaks over the past several weeks.
This sets the launch date about a month earlier than was initially suspected after Yang told The Wall Street Journal that his company would release a new phone to the North American market in July.
The release of the Moto G4 and G4 Plus will, if all the leaks prove accurate, mark the first time Motorola has produced a phone with a fingerprint sensor since the Motorola Atrix, which was the first smartphone ever to offer the feature. According to leakster Evan Blass the sensor will only appear on the Plus model.
