Shazam, the world’s most popular music and TV show identification service, has launched version 5.0 of its iOS app. The improvements are few in number but significant; you can now listen to and identify media in under a second, though in my experience the match is usually made in under three seconds. This is a significant improvement from the previous version, which took up to 30 seconds to send data back to the server and retrieve the tag.
The iOS interface has also been overhauled, bringing it in line with other social media apps like Instagram; the tag button is displayed prominently in the bottom middle, with surrounding tabs to either side. You can quickly tag and share to Facebook or Twitter, with a custom message, and there are several languages added to the mix including Brazilian Portuguese, Korean and Spanish for South America. And, as always, LyricPlay is built into the app for following along with the songs. The app is free but ad-supported, which can be turned off forever for $5.99, or for $3.99/year.
