The long-awaited fight between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul is finally happening this Friday, November 15th. The match will be streaming in Canada on Netflix at 8pm EST, 5pm PST.
The showdown has grabbed headlines for many reasons, but seeing Mike Tyson return to the ring at the age of 58, is definitely at the top. Considered one of the deadliest fighters of all time, his last professional fight was 19 years ago. In that time, he suffered from numerous health problems. Most recently, Tyson had to delay the date of the original fight due to an ulcer flare-up that caused him to be hospitalized. And while he’s looking to be in great shape heading into the night, the odds are stacked against him.
His opponent, Jake Paul, is a controversial figure. A former YouTuber with many trending videos — and several lawsuits — to his name, Paul transitioned into boxing, proving to be a surprisingly adept fighter. He’s defeated other online personalities, but also former UFC fighters including Mike Perry and Anderson Silva. He holds a record of 10-1.
At 27 years old, Paul is the favourite to win. Though he likely wouldn’t have stood a chance against Tyson in his prime, the 31-year age gap puts him at an advantage. The fight will be considered a professional bout, featuring eight two-minute rounds. Though the pair will be wearing larger than normal gloves, there is still the possibility of a knockout.
In an unprecedented move, the match will not be a pay-per-view event. All Netflix users in Canada will be able to watch the event for free as part of their subscription.
If you don’t have Netflix, the streaming giant currently offers three plans:
