OnePlus 5 receives Android 8.0 Oreo Open Beta build

OnePlus kicked off the Open Beta Program for the OnePlus 5 on Saturday, November 25th, with the first Open Beta build of Android 8.0.

Below, see the changelog for the specific changes that come with the new OS version:

  • Updated to Android O (8.0)
  • Added Picture in Picture
  • Added Auto-fill
  • Added Smart text selection
  • New Quick Settings design
  • Added Parallel Apps
  • Updated security patch to October
  • Added notification dots
  • New app folder design
  • Now able to upload photos directly to Shot on OnePlus

OnePlus warns that its Beta builds are not guaranteed to be stable, and that customers may risk data loss should they choose to install the software.

Those who choose to go ahead anyway can find the company’s flashing instructions here. Otherwise, OnePlus has promised a stable build of Android 8.0 will arrive for the OnePlus 5 in early 2018.

Meanwhile, XDA Developers forum members recently leaked what appears to be a link to the OnePlus 5 Open Beta 2 build and posted about installing the build. The member who reportedly installed the build said they spotted the Face Unlock feature the company unveiled with the OnePlus 5T.
