Rogers has changed how customers can get its Automatic Payments discount and is urging customers via email to switch payment methods.
According to a screenshot posted to the r/rogers subreddit, the telecom giant now requires customers to update their payment method to either a Rogers Bank credit card or a pre-authorized credit card to get the discount.
Rogers also noted in the email that the change will take place after your November bill payment.
You can still use other payment methods like your regular credit cards or direct deposit — but you won’t get the Automatic Payments discount.
This comes right as Rogers posted a notice on its support site that it will start charging a 1.6 per cent credit card processing fee on Jan. 17, 2027. Convenient, as the Rogers Bank credit card is now the only discount-eligible credit card that can be used for payments.
Interestingly, Rogers also announced in August that it would replace the 1.5x cash back rewards redemption for eligible Rogers purchases with the ability to earn five per cent cash back rewards on eligible Rogers purchases (for every dollar, you earn $0.50 in cash back rewards), adding insult to injury.
To summarize all of this, Rogers is now making customers who want the Automatic Payments discount switch over to its own Rogers Bank credit card to get a discount. Worse, the card’s cashback benefits are now significantly reduced thanks to the slashed features and new processing fee.
Or you could use a pre-authorized debit card, but I don’t really trust giving Rogers pre-authorized access to my debit card.
