Out of nowhere, Apple dropped a press release on some of its newsroom websites around the world for a new evolution of the iPod sock made by the Japanese brand ISSY MIYAKE.
This new version elevates the old sock case by incorporating a handle and a new knit pattern. It’s called an iPhone Pocket, and there are two versions: one that resembles a purse and one with a long crossbody strap.
The dark blue, brown and black colours on the right are also available as crossbody straps.
Both bags/cases are knitted as a single piece of fabric, featuring an interesting pattern and numerous colour options. However, it’s only getting an extremely limited release and will be available at only 10 stores, and most of them are in Asia or Europe. Only the New York SoHo store will stock the iPhone Pocket in North America.
The Pocket also expands slightly so you can fit a few more items in alongside your iPhone if you want. The short strapped design comes in eight colours, and the crossbody version only comes in three.
The smaller of the two, starts at US$149 (roughly C$208) and the larger one is US$229 (roughly C$320). And while these seem expensive, I would imagine that the limited nature of this release will mean that these will resell for even more once people get their hands on them.
In Canada, all we’ve got is the new Apple CrossBody strap, which I love, but it isn’t quite as fun or as stylish as the special edition iPhone Pocket.
