Didn’t get into the first public beta test of Google’s Jump VR platform? Well, now you have another chance to try your hand at creating film for virtual reality, though it will set you back a pretty penny.
Google and GoPro today announced a new early access program for the Jump VR array they co-developed. Now called Odyssey, GoPro is selling limited quantities of the unit for $15,000 USD. The companies are asking that interested parties, including those living in Canada, sign up for a chance to purchase the camera.
Included in the $15,000 package is $8,000 USD worth of GoPro Hero4 Black cameras, the Odyssey rig itself, 16 “bacpacs” that help with mounting the cameras on the rig, microSD cards, relevant cables and a pelican case to help with storing and transporting the entire setup.
The Odyssey also comes with Google’s Jump Assembler. This piece of software takes footage from all 16 cameras and stitches it together into a single file. You can see it in action in the YouTube video below. If you’re on Chrome, you can even use the WASD keys to look around.
