Manitoba government may introduce new cellphone contracts legislation on Monday

Manitoba Consumer Affairs Minister Gord Mackintosh has intentions to change up the Consumer Protection Act as early as Monday. The Minister posted a note yesterday in Manitoba’s Legislative Assembly “Notice of Motions for Monday” paper. This will hopefully bring forward changes to how cellphone contracts are written and make it easier for customers to understand the carrier cancellation policy and length of contracts.

Back in January the province of Manitoba received an overwhelming 98% response (248 submissions) to have the current bill changed. Mackintosh said at the time that how cellphone contracts are currently written “makes the Magna Carta look like a cinch”.
