iOS 11.4 iPad and iPhone public beta now available

AirPlay 2 support makes a return in the latest public beta eversion of iOS

iOS 11.4 beta

Two weeks after the release of the developer version of the operating system, Apple has dropped the public beta of iOS 11.4.

The new beta version of Apple’s operating system adds unreleased features like AirPlay 2 support and Messages on iCloud.

AirPlay 2 is an updated version of Apple’s Wi-Fi streaming protocol. The feature was removed in the public iOS 11.3 beta after making an appearance in the developer iteration.

AirPlay 2 adds multi-speaker support to Apple’s HomePod, but reportedly only if developer firmware is installed on the smart speaker. Competing smart home speakers like the Google Home and Amazon Echo have featured multi-speaker support for several months now.

iCloud message syncing uploads all iMessage conversations, allowing message thread history to be shared across multiple iOS devices. This would make iMessage work more like other cloud-based messaging services like Facebook Messenger or Google’s Allo.

In order to download the update, navigate over to ‘Settings,’ then ‘General,’ and finally, ‘Software Update.’ This will then prompt you to install the update.

Along with the release of the public beta of iOS 11.4, Apple also recently pushed out another developer beta for iOS 11.4, watchOS 4.3.1 and tvOS 11.4.
