Instagram announces sensitive content shield and widespread rollout of two-factor verification

Instagram has announced several new features and initiatives in order to “foster a safer, kinder community.”

In a blog post, the company announced that users may soon see an obscuring screen over certain photos and videos that have been flagged as sensitive. The content, Instagram notes, is not necessarily in violation of its guidelines, but it has been reported by the community and confirmed by the app’s review team as sensitive. Users who want to see the sensitive content can simply tap to reveal it.

The social media platform also notes that two-factor authentication is now available to all its users, which adds security by having users type in a code every time they log in. To turn on two-factor authentication, tap the gear icon on your profile and toggle on the feature.

Additionally, Instagram promoted a new site called Instagram Together that provides information and tools related to safety — like account blocking, comment control and photo tagging. It’s also holding a global event on March 25th and 26th called Worldwide InstaMeet 15. This year’s theme is kindness and interested ‘grammers can find a local meet up here.
