iOS port of The Binding of Isaac rejected by Apple App Store

The Binding of Isaac

The iOS port of The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth has been rejected by Apple because of scenes in the game that depict violence against children, according to one of the game’s creators, Tyrone Rodriguez.

Nicalis, the game’s publisher, hinted in the past it was working on bringing the critically acclaimed indie title to iOS, but until now no official word had come out on the status of the port.

Calling out Apple’s often controversial app approval process on Twitter, Rodriquez posted a screenshot of the game’s App Store rejection notice.

According to Apple’s report, Binding of Isaac was not approved because it “contains content or features that depict violence towards, or abuse of, children, which is not allowed on the App [Store].”

It’s unclear if Rodriguez intends to challenge the decision, or if the game will be resubmitted with some content removed.

In 2012, Rodriguez and Edward McMillen, the game’s other developer and one of the minds behind indie darling Super Meat Boy, tried to bring the Binding of Isaac to Nintendo’s 3DS portable console. At the time, Nintendo, much like Apple, rejected adding the game to the 3DS eShop because of “questionable religious content”. However, in 2015, The Binding of Issac: Rebirth, an enhanced remake of the original game, was released on both the New Nintendo 3DS and Wii U.
