Snapdragon flew me out to Hawaii to check out its latest chip, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and, for the first time ever, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, the company’s premier “extreme-levelled” mobile chipset.
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 series has a reengineered Qualcomm Hexagon NPU that allows the Elite Gen 6’s agentic AI features to comprehend personal context across devices; it also tries to anticipate your needs, learn and adapt over time, and auto-prompt photo editing. The Elite Extreme has more advanced agentic AI with deeper contextual understanding. Additionally, it has significantly enhanced on-device AI performance. Extreme is supposed to deliver agents faster, more personalized and more dependable.
Qualcomm says its Custom-built Oryon CPU offers industry-leading performance, with peak speeds up to 5.0GHz. Additionally, it says the CPU is fast, offering responsive experiences across play and creativity, and seamless multitasking throughout the day. The Elite Extreme has all of this plus “Snapdragon’s most powerful gaming, creation, and AI experiences.” Qualcomm also says it offers system-level contributions for an overall better-performing package. It also includes the VVC codec for more power-efficient videos.
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6’s next-gen Adreno GPU sports faster, smoother gameplay with intelligent graphic enhancements, as well as responsive controls, fluid reactions, and a full suite of Snapdragon 8 Elite gaming experiences. The 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, on the other hand, sports AI-dedicated Adreno matrix cores and runs advanced models. Additionally, it features Adreno Neural Fusion for AI-driven super resolution and frame generation and even has 18MB of high-performance memory.
Additionally, the 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 offers cinema-grade video with APV support, as well as 8K60 video capture and 4K240 ultra HD slow-motion.
And Qualcomm is already launching the first product with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6: the Motorola Signature 27.
