In case you weren’t already exhausted by all the AI stuff Bell is doing (I know I am), the company has another new AI pitch. This time, it’s using AI to create ads.
Yeah, you read that right. Bell’s media division announced on Sept. 29 the launch of ‘Bell Ads for Business AI Video Builder,’ a tool the company says can help “create professional-quality video advertising quickly and easily. “
Bell is integrating the new tool directly into its existing Bell Ads for Business platform, a self-serve digital advertising platform that allows Canadian businesses to target ads across Bell Media properties and the internet using Bell’s own Canadian data.
Bell says the new AI tool will allow businesses to “transform existing website content, images, branding, and messaging into campaign-ready video ads in minutes.” It also claims the tool can help reduce costs, complexities, and other production barriers for video advertising.
The tool is powered by technology from Waymark, a U.S. company that also offers AI tech to create advertising.
Bell has been pushing AI hard in recent months, from signing an MOU with Cisco on sovereign AI, to launching a cybersecurity AI model with Cohere, and announcing plans to quadruple the capacity of its upcoming AI data centre hub in Saskatchewan.
But while businesses might leap at the chance to cut advertising costs with a tool like this, I can’t picture it being popular with the people who see the ads. I mean, I don’t like seeing ads at all, and every AI ad I’ve seen has only made me dislike the brands that used it. I wouldn’t be surprised if these AI ads ended up doing more harm than good.
