Looking for the telecom provider with the strongest connection in your area? Well, PlanHub has got a new feature for you.
Essentially, PlanHub has introduced a new feature within its mobile app. Called Signal, it lets you explore nearby cell towers and compare mobile networks at any location you select.
According to PlanHub, all you have to do is enter an address or city to explore nearby cellular infrastructure on an interactive map. This map allows you to view towers associated with carriers like Bell, Rogers, Telus, Freedom Mobile, Videotron, SaskTel, and Cogeco.
Using this data, Signal displays the number of nearby sites and how close the nearest antenna is. Interestingly, the app also uses your phone’s modem to measure perceived signal strength.
PlanHub also notes that tapping any antenna on the map lets you view its technical details, including the provider, distance from your location, antenna height, geographic coordinates, and associated radio frequencies. Reportedly, the app can also indicate potential 5G compatibility using the site’s frequency data.
PlanHub also has more up its sleeve; in a future update, the company plans to collect measurements over the next several days to evaluate network quality throughout the user’s daily travels. The app will consider reception at home, work, and during the user’s commute. PlanHub says the goal is to identify which provider offers the best coverage based on actual use patterns, rather than at a single address.
