Apple says 30 per cent of material across all products it shipped in 2025 were made from recycled material. This includes phones, iPads, laptops, computers and watches.

One of the most impressive claims made, however, is that Apple is using 100 per cent recycled cobalt, which has been a goal and a promise many years in the running. Cobalt is a notoriously dangerous resource to mine, due to mine collapses. Additionally, Apple’s circuit boards were made with 100 per cent recycled gold in 2025 and all magnets were made using 100 per cent recycled rare earth metals.

“These milestones in our work to protect the planet show that ambitious goals can also be powerful engines of innovation. And as always, we’ll keep pushing to build on this progress even more,” Apple CEO Tim Cook said in an Apple Newsroom post about the company’s environmental goals.

Apple released its plans for Apple 2030, with the goal of becoming “carbon neutral.” Since 2015, Apple’s emissions have gone down 60 per cent, remaining stable from 2024, despite company growth.
