Apple might reveal a new 24-inch iMac later this month

It's unclear if the iMac will feature Apple's M2 or rumoured M3 chip

It’s possible Apple could have plans to reveal a refreshed 24-inch iMac later this month, according to Bloomberg’s often-reliable Mark Gurman.

Gurman’s latest ‘Power On’ newsletter states that a new version of Apple’s M1-powered 24-inch iMac, presumably updated with either Apple’s M2 or possible M3 chip, will be revealed before the end of the month.

The reliable source of Apple leaks goes on to say that Apple’s 13-inch MacBook Pro could also be getting a similar chip upgrade, though it would be to the M3 chip given the laptop already offers the M2. It’s unlikely the 14-inch/16-inch MacBook Pro will be updated, given the laptops are on a different release cycle and probably won’t be refreshed until 2024.

Beyond the chip update, it’s unclear if Apple has plans to update either the 24-inch iMac or the 13-inch MacBook Pro in other ways. I’m hoping we see USB-A come to the iMac and possibly new colours.

Regarding the 13-inch MacBook Pro, I’d like to see Apple drop the pretty much useless TouchBar in an effort to improve battery life. Beyond the chip updates, I really don’t expect Apple to change much about either device.
