Some Pixel 2 cameras are showing banding and flickering under LED lights

This must be the worst Google device has released. Every day there is some sort of issue happening with it. Either it’s hardware related or software.

Does Google hire LG without knowing that LG doesn’t actually do testing on the phones? Or does Google not actually care… This is a shame that this is happening.

The most famous phones will get bashed. That’s just part of the market. My pixel 2 has had none of the problems I’ve read about. Meanwhile most of these things are easily and quickly fixed with updates. If you have one and are experiencing the problems try taking it back because I know first hand not all the phones have problems.

Yep and return ratio per phone sold is much lower than samsung and apple so in the end this feel more like paid for propaganda.

Have this on my pixel 2.
Just checked after reading this article and there’s banding.
It was in the house not airplane.
    I hope Google fixes this.

Making a good phone is hard.

Where is your critical thinking Mobilesyrup ? That’s a problem most cameras (phone, DSLR, professional) have related to the difference in refreshing rate of the LED lights and the cameras. shutter speed. As a film graduate who’ve worked with professional cameras, I can tell you this is NORMAL and happened on 1000$+ video cameras.

This is just nitpicking for the sake of bashing. I agree Pixel 2 XL has a lot of problem but this isn’t one.

Disagree, if you can’t use it in normal door lighting then what good is it? I never have a phone act like this no matter what lighting except computer monitor.

    • Mika Turcotte-Talbot

It doesn’t do it with all LED lights, it depends of their refresh rate, wich is also influenced by the color of the light. As you can see in the video, the light is blue. It happended to me with blue and red LED on 1500$+ professional video cameras but not when the LED was set to regular white.

So unless your normal indoor lighting is blue, I think you will be fine.

    • John Lofwire

Ah thanks for that info my led flashlight do put out a slightly blue glow 🙂

I saw this banding with LG V30 in store demo. I put my lg v20 out to compare. It did not have it. I want to believe is purely just light source, which mostly is, but I believe the cameras have something to do with it as well.

    • John Lofwire

Its do it with cheap LED (like a flashlight ect )

Tested a V30 , iphone 8 plus and pixel 2 they ALL did the same crap.

  • Can’t Fix Stupid

Pixel 2 and iPhone X two piles of overpriced garbage.

  • Sunny

I am seeing this too in LG v30 demo units. Anyone see this with their LG v30?

    • John Lofwire

i see this with mostly all camera i tested lol.

  • Jbab

I have not had any sort of problem like this on my pixel 2, every single light in my house is led

  • Jean-Gabriel Morin

This flickering is due to bad lighting not the camera it has probably been recorded in 60fps and therefore even my 25k cinema camera would have done the same as seen on the plane video. Cheap led and neon dose that to fix the problem you would need to change the shutter speed or on a phone lowering the fps will ultimately changing the shutter speed would fix the issue too (changing the shutter is no option on stock pixel camera) . The phone is not to blame people need to calm down with all that pixel 2 thing!!!

Its called propaganda to downgrade an amazing device.

I just tested this with 3 phones ( LG V30 , pixel 2 and iphone 8 plus ) i put a LED flashlight and filmed 1080p movie with all 3 device at 30 and 60 fps.

They all showed same issues as this at 60 fps..

Tired of those paid for propaganda articles.
