When OnePlus announced the OnePlus 3T yesterday, there was some confusion over what would happen to the OnePlus 3. After all, while the 3T features some nice upgrades over the original OP3, including a faster Snapdragon 821 chipset, some people, looking to save close to a $100, were content to pick up the now six months old OnePlus 3. However, it sounds like that won’t be an option, at least not in Canada.
In a statement issued to MobileSyrup, OnePlus has clarified what will happen to the OP3 now that the OnePlus 3T exists, as well as how the company plans to handle software upgrades between the two smartphones.
“The OnePlus 3 is currently going end of life in North America and Europe,” said a spokesperson for the company. “However, the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T will be on the same software update schedule going forward, with both devices receiving Android N simultaneously by the end of the year.”
So there you have it. While not the ideal result some people were looking for, at least the two devices will get Android Nougat at the same time.
