theScore, the Canadian digital sports giant, is set to bring its breaking news app to Samsung’s upcoming Gear S smartwatch.
Samsung has been making a big deal of its various content partnerships in the days following its Gear S announcement, touting Nike+, HERE Maps and Fleksy.
Content partnerships such as this are essential to the Gear S’s success, as its Tizen-based operating system is not compatible with existing Android apps, an advantage Android Wear has been exploiting since its announcement in June.
theScore for Gear S will be a push notification-based news app, customizable for various sports, leagues and players, much like its mobile apps do today.
“theScore’s personalized, real-time push alerts are one of our most popular features, so making this even more accessible to sports fans by bringing the experience to the Galaxy Gear S makes total sense,” said John Levy, Chairman and CEO of theScore. “Fans will now be able to stay up-to-date on everything they need to know at a glance and we’re very proud to be one of Samsung’s premier launch partners for their latest exciting wearable device.”
While Gear S availability and pricing has not been detailed for Canadian consumers just yet, we’ve confirmed that it will be launching sometime in the future. The Gear S, in addition to a curved Super AMOLED display, is the first mainstream smartwatch to boast 3G connectivity.
