BlackBerry has over 65 million BBM users and Kik Messenger touts over 80 million active users. Today, WhatsApp CEO Jan Koum showed his power and took the stage at Nokia World by declaring its messaging service has significantly increased in the quarter by 50 million to reach a total of 350 million active monthly users.
Pretty impressive stats for all the messaging apps. This doesn’t even consider Facebook, iMessage, regular texting, or even the quick messages that users leave on Twitter or Instagram. A recent report by the CWTA (Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association) shows that Canadians sent a total of 96.5 billion text messages in 2012.
