Shoppers Drug Mart updates iOS app and launches Android app with Optimum support and shopping list

Now, branded apps may not be the hottest topic of discussion — we understand that. But everyone goes to the drug store, and like it or not, Shoppers Drug Mart (Pharmaprix in Quebec) is one of the more ubiquitous logos in the country.

The company just launched their new apps for iOS and Android this past week, bringing some pretty fantastic features for SDM loyalists. You can check the latest e-flyer and offers for Optimum points; check your Optimum card balance; make arrangements to refill a prescription; make a shopping list, including the ability to add items from the flyer in one tap; and find a store.

While the app doesn’t fully replace your Optimum card with a virtual version — this isn’t Starbucks — it still lets you leave your card at home and have the cashier enter the number manually.

A few niggles come to mind: the Android app is an exact clone of the iPhone version, complete with iOS-like assets like the bottom row of navigation icons and a standard iPhone back button. This is unfortunate, as we’ve learned over the past few years Android functions very differently than iOS, as there is a dedicated back button on the bottom of the screen. That being said, the navigation doesn’t get in its own way, and the Android version performs nicely and looks great on larger-screen devices.

If you’re a Shoppers Drug Mart user, download the app for iOS or Android. Here’s the Pharmaprix app for iOS and Android
