Facebook gobbled up the popular photo-sharing site Instagram for over a billion dollars a few months ago. However the deal was in limbo as the FTC was doing some investigations. However, both companies have joyfully announced today that the transaction is complete and officially closed.
On the Facebook blog they noted that they’ll continue “growing Instagram independently” and build the community, but will also “grow by using Facebook’s strong engineering team and infrastructure.” They specifically stated they’ll “improve the mobile experience.” Meanwhile on the Instagram blog, they announced that over 5 billion photos have been shared and that “the Instagram app and its features will stay the same one you know and love, and we’ll keep working together to build a better Instagram for everyone.”
Hopefully that’s true. Would be a disappointment to see Instagram radically changed. Instagram is available for iOS and Android.
