  2. If they’re going for retro charm, they’re lacking. Bring back the StarTAC or the brick phone!!!

  5. How can you, in your right mind say “it comes loaded” and list features including “a 1.3 megapixel camera, 2-inch internal display” – unless you missed putting the scarcasm note at the end.

  6. For someone who wants to take advantage of the larger HSPA area, like say in newfoundland but does NOT want a data device this phone works great.

Not everyone wants a data package

  7. No offence Crosiss, but you don’t have a clue as to what you’re talking about. HSPA is data. This is a GSM phone, making your point utterly useless. This phone is a disgrace and the price is laughable. You’re an effing joke Telus.

  10. Bytor – So this phone wont work for voice at all then? Since TELUS does not have a GSM network that means you can buy it but not do anything with it?

  11. Dont get me wrong, it’s a head scratcher why they would release this BUT there are some specific cases where it might be handy.

Of course if TELUS never put out a “dumb HSPA phone” they would get flack for only selling smartphones for the new network.

  12. No offense Bytor, but it is YOU who has no idea what you are talking about. This is an HSPA 850/1900 phone. Refer to the link provided in the article before you spew garbage and lies.

Note where it says “HSPA 850/1900 Mhz” on the phone’s stats on Telus.

Telus doesn’t have a GSM network, they have an HSPA network. Sheesh

  13. Lets also add in all the HSPA network options that DONT need a data device – like:
    -Call Fordwarding Options
-Better Internation Roaming Rates and coverage
    -Warnings about Long Distance Calls

Plus it can be used as a wireless modem.

Saying it’s a waste of a launch is like saying the first EVDO “only dumb phone” was a waste since the main part of EVDO was data as well.

  17. a lot of people are asking why there’s no options for regular cell phones on Telus’ HSPA – all you naysayers need to look past your bitterness for the industry in Canada.

Get over yourselves – this phone will do well for people who travel internationally.

Yes, you can get cheaper GSM phones on Fido, but GSM is quickly becoming old technology. Unlock your HSPA flip phone and go nuts for travel. Simple as that.
