RIM confirms Bold 9900 bricking issue for “a limited number of customers”

The Bold 9900 is RIM’s best looking and most powerful BlackBerry to-date. It’s beautifully designed, thin, sports a touchscreen, a QWERTY keyboard, plus has a 1.2GHz processor. Unfortunately, with all that beauty there are some 9900/9930’s users out there that are not having much luck. The reason is because their device is not powering, rendering it bricked and unusable. On CNBC last night a RIM spokesperson confirmed that “A limited number of customers have reported an issue where their device does not power on”, and they are “actively working on a software update to resolve this issue”. There’s no word on how many users are included in the “limited number of customers”, nor how or when a fix can be expected. Users on CrackBerry and the official BlackBerry Support Forum are stating that “if the battery drains completely and is then recharged it (I think) short circuits the phone”. If this is happening to you, make sure you use the warranty RIM gives you.
