Apple’s recently launched music streaming service, Apple Music, has made its way to Android.
The Android version of Apple Music has been expected for a number of months now and screenshots of the app leaked in late October. Back in June, during Apple’s developer conference, the company announced plans to develop an Android app for Apple Music but didn’t reveal a specific release date for the platform.
Apple music has gained a significant amount of traction since the platform’s free 90-day trial ended on September 30th, with paying subscriber numbers amounting to 6.5 million. In comparison, Spotify has 20 million subscribers, although the service has been available in various regions of the world since 2008.
Family memberships and music videos, two prominent iOS Apple Music features, are not available in the platform’s Android counterpart during the beta period.
One feature Android users may appreciate if they have other Apple devices in their homes is the ability to access iCloud Music Library content — that is, music that has either been purchased through iTunes, or uploaded to the service and matched using iTunes Match.
Apple Music is currently available on iOS, iTunes for Mac, the Apple TV and Windows. Apple Music for Android requires Android 4.3 or later.
