Rogers is adding a bunch of new National Hockey League (NHL) content to its Xfinity TV service for free.
According to an announcement from the telecom, Rogers will add exclusive Sportsnet+ content to TV packages at no additional cost, including over 150 NHL games and Monday Night Hockey. The addition starts on Sept. 29.
Customers who have TV packages with Sportsnet will be able to access three new digital channels that will feature the Sportsnet+ content. According to Rogers, the Sportsnet+ add-on package, valued at $12.99/mo, will be included automatically for eligible customers.
Rogers says customers won’t need to take any action to make this happen and will simply be able to access it using their remote later this month.
Based on the details on Rogers website, the free Sportsnet+ content will be available with the company’s Plus and Ultimate TV plans. Currently, Plus TV costs $55/mo when paired with home internet (full bundle price starts at $130/mo). That plan includes up to 120 channels, a TV box and voice remote, access to Rogers’ Xfinity Stream app, sports, news, and more.
Meanwhile, the Ultimate TV plan costs $95 when bundled with home internet (full bundle price starts at $170/mo). It includes everything in Plus, but with up to 170 channels and additional sports and new content. Ultimate also includes Rogers’ StreamSaver, a bundle of streaming services including Netflix (with ads), Disney+ (with ads) and Apple TV+.
Notably, Rogers’ free Sportsnet offer comes after CBC ended Hockey Night in Canada in June following the expiry of its sublicensing deal with Rogers’ Sportsnet. Further, Rogers raised the price of its Sportsnet+ subscription in July after it signed a deal to purchase the remaining 25 per cent stake in Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment (MLSE) that same month.
