Chinese phone maker Tecno is working on a truly bezeless phone, and recently showed off a new concept phone with an “industry-first” zero-millimetre border.
It’s an impressive look, considering flagship devices typically hover around 90 to 95 per cent screen coverage (Chinese brands that use hidden cameras are nearer to 95 per cent).
According to Tecno’s release, the company is able to achieve this bezeless design with a reengineered structure that involves “advanced internal stacking.” This, alongside screen packing techniques, gets rid of that last millimetre of bezel.
Tecno will show off this phone at IFA 2026 in September, and claims that this design offers a more immersive viewing experience. The company also believes that this design will create a distinct design language and make it stand out.
While this is very cool technology, I think that in practice it’s more gimmick than the future. If you dropped it, would the lack of bezel mean that the display is taking all the impact? Would it be annoying to grip your phone because you’re always touching the display?
Not sure if this is for me, but definitely a phone I would love to check out. Unfortunately for Canadians, if Tecno’s bezel-less phone ever officially launches, it likely won’t be available here anyway.
