Samsung to change position of rear-facing fingerprint sensor for Galaxy S9: report

While some rumours indicate that Samsung’s next flagship devices will have embedded front-facing fingerprint sensors, others say the technology won’t be implemented until the Galaxy Note 9.

If the latter is true, fans who are currently struggling with the awkward location of the S8’s fingerprint scanner will cling to this new leak. According to GizChina an insider from China has revealed Samsung will overhaul the rear of the Galaxy S9 and S9+.

The insider doesn’t specifically mention how everything will change but did mention the S9 will have a rear-facing camera setup akin to the Note 8. Additionally, the insider mentioned that the rear fingerprint sensor will be changed, without offering further details. GizChina suggests the fingerprint scanner will be pushed below the camera setup, which would eliminate the issue of accidentally smudging camera sensors while trying to unlock the device.

According to the PhoneArena the Samsung Galaxy A5 and A7 (2018) will also feature the same type of centered rear-facing fingerprint sensor.

Additionally, the S9 is expected to be powered by a Snapdragon 845 chipset or an Exynos 9810 chipset, depending on the region. The Exynos system-on-a-chip, is predicted to have a new neural processor which will improve its artificial intelligence, while the S9’s camera is to support 1,000 fps slow motion.
