Razer’s Nabu smartband was first announced in January and though the company has already launched its beta program for developers as well as its companion application for Android but it looks like the launch of this device is still a long way off. The latest reports say the device may not arrive until well into the fall.
The Razer Nabu was supposed to arrive in Q1 but was pushed to June in order to give Razer more time to perfect the device. We haven’t heard anything about a possible release date since then. Though things appeared to be chugging along last month (Razer released its Android app in late July), Digitimes is reporting that the gaming peripheral company is now shooting for a Q4 release for its first wearable. If true, that means the earliest we’ll see this device is October.
The Nabu looks more like a sport band than a smartwatch but will apparently be able to track activity, find your nearby friends based on their location and communicate via WeChat. If Razer is actually pushing the launch to Q4, the company will need to get the Nabu out in October if it wants to build momentum in time for the holiday shopping season, a hugely important time of year for consumer electronics companies. We’ve reached out to Razer for comment on the rumors.
Update: A spokesperson for Razer in Canada has confirmed that the Nabu will not be launching until October.
