Camera+ has always been one of our favourite ways to take photos on the iPhone. It’s fast — until the iPhone 5, much faster than the stock app — and provides lots of editing options that Apple doesn’t have. Then there’s taptaptap’s commitment to its ecosystem, allowing third-party apps access to its extensive API. Tweetbot, one of iOS’ best Twitter apps, allows its users to edit photos in Camera+ from within the app itself.
The app has just been updated to version 3.5, bringing with it iCloud sync and a host of iPhone 5-specific speed improvements. With the new iPad app, which launches today for 99c for a limited time, you can sync photos in your Camera+ Lightbox across multiple iOS devices over iCloud; once the photos have been downloaded to the iPad, you can edit them in full screen on the Retina display. While taking photos isn’t exactly convenient or intuitive on the iPad, it’s firmly become one of the best ways to edit photos on a portable device.
Some iPad-specific features include straightening of photos, as well as brushing on effects and layering two photos over top of each other. On the iPad, you can also import photos from Facebook and Flickr.
Both apps are on sale for 99c and, if you’re into photography at all, are a worthy buy.
