Microsoft’s trifecta on this long-weekend Monday is taking Facebook for Windows Phone 8 out of beta.

The company was testing its overhauled Windows Phone 8 app since April, and has now overwritten its aging first-gen app with one that will appear familiar to anyone who has used Facebook on mobile. With a left-side navigation drawer, Timeline support, post sharing and high-resolution images, Facebook for Windows Phone 8 is a huge improvement over the old version.

Facebook will also keep its beta app available for users who want to live on the cutting edge and “tinker with pre-release software.” The company also said in a blog post that it is working on bringing much of the same new functionality to its Windows Phone 7 app by late summer.
