CCTS to reveal which telecom provider received the most complaints with its mid-year report

On Thursday, the Commissioner for Complaints for Telecommunications (CCTS) will release its mid-year report detailing the number of complaints Canadians are bringing to the organization regarding their telecommunications services. The CCTS, which is an independent though industry-funded agency, says the news will be made public on April 5th.

Canadians can contact the CCTS and lodge complaints about their wireless, internet, local phone, TV, and long distance services.

Earlier this year, the CCTS declared in its 2015-2016 report that wireless complaints topped the list, which have held the top spot for seven years running. However, since implementing the service, the number of customer complaints received by CCTS have sharply declined. The total complaints in 2015-2016 were 15,761 complaints, with 50.3 percent (7,931) stemming from wireless customers.

Bell had the most consumer complaints with 2,940, which represented 35.9 percent of the total. Rogers was second with only 861 total complaints, followed by Telus with 570 total complaints.

The CCTS is reaching out to Canadians on Twitter with a quiz of sorts, asking for answers to the following questions:

  • What are the top 10 issues raised in complaints?
  • Which telecom provider got the most complaints between August 1, 2016 and January 31, 2017?
  • How many breaches of the Wireless Code did we record in that period?
