Bethesda confirms Elder Scrolls VI title is ‘Sentinel’ — 8 years after reveal

But we still have seen nothing from the actual game

The Elder Scrolls VI Sentinel

Bethesda has announced that the next Elder Scrolls game will officially be called The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel. The company unveiled the full title, which had recently been leaked, in a larger video celebrating its 40th anniversary.

However, that’s all the quick trailer shows us outside of a dune and a quote from a character called Yazar the Moth Priest. Otherwise, we still know nothing about the game itself. For context, The Elder Scrolls VI was first announced way back at E3 2018 alongside the sci-fi RPG Starfield. But while that latter game launched in 2023, Bethesda went dark on the sixth Elder Scrolls.

To be clear, it undoubtedly takes a long time to make the kind of sprawling RPGs that are Bethesda’s bread and butter. But it also begs the question of why you’d announce the game way back in 2018 when it was still in pre-production and clearly many years away, especially since Starfield was the focus at the time. For what it’s worth, Bloomberg‘s Jason Schreier said the announcement was made to placate fans who were upset over Fallout 76, a multiplayer game. (We still don’t even have a release window for Sentinel, although Schreier speculated it’s at least two years away still.)

It certainly hasn’t helped Bethesda in recent months that parent company Xbox has been an absolute mess, laying off thousands of people and having big corporate shake-ups throughout. These reductions have included at least 50 people at Bethesda Game Studios, which, understandably, has also left those who remain with reduced talent and diminishing morale. (All of this comes, mind you, as Microsoft continues to report soaring profits.)

But hey, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma took some time in the summer in between axing everyone to say that the game is great, so we can all rest easy.
