Google has announced new ways to use your voice with Gemini on macOS. When the update hits your device, you’ll be able to long-press the Fn key to speak naturally in any window on your desktop.
The feature will automatically enable intelligent dictation, which is a transcribing tool that automatically removes “uhm” and “ahs” and catches mid-sentence corrections, and then drops the formatted text. You can also enable Gemini reasoning, which will let the AI understand the context on your screen and execute tasks.
You’ll be able to extract and summarize information from images and documents and tell Gemini to summarize the information. Highlight text on your screen and use your voice to rewrite it. Lastly, you’ll be able to generate and edit images with your voice.
I checked my Gemini on a MacBook and I don’t have the feature yet, but Google says it’s rolling out globally to all users of the Gemini app for macOS in English, with more languages coming soon.
