Netflix has now released an app called Playground, a gaming app for kids eight and under on smartphones and tablets. All Netflix members of any tier have access to the app, with Netflix promising that there are no ads or in-app purchases.
Popular titles on the gaming include Sesame Street and Peppa Pig. Netflix Playground is available for download in Canada, the U.S, the U.K., Austrailia, New Zealand and the Philippines and will be available globally on April 28.
The app works without a wifi or hotspot connection, making it the perfect source of entertainment for kids for an extended period of time. All games on the app are free to play, and the app itself has parental controls so that parents can monitor their child’s usage and ensure a safe gaming experience.
Netflix has been putting more effort into its gaming platforms since 2021, with the most notable titles including Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, which became available for download on Netflix in 2023 and has 44 million downloads.
Netflix’s vice president of animation series and kids TV, John Derderian, says, “We’re building a world where kids can not only watch their favourite stories, they can step inside them and interact with their favourite characters.
We’re creating a seamless destination for discovery, learning, and play. Netflix also promises “an ever-growing library of games” with more titles like Dr. Seuss’s Horton!, Storybots, Dr. Seuss’s The Sneetches and Bad Dinosaurs.
