Canadian Game Awards to be held in May alongside big gaming event

The show was previously set for February 21, but has been pushed back to partner with the XP Game Summit

Canadian Game Awards 2025

The 2026 Canadian Game Awards will officially take place in May.

Originally set for Feb. 21, the ceremony has been moved three months to coincide with the XP Game Summit, a major gaming industry event in Toronto. The XP Game Summit runs May 21 and 22 at the Hyatt Regency Toronto, with the CGAs taking place on the former date. The nominees have also been announced — read more on those here.

Although the XP Game Summit is primarily a business-to-business (B2B) event for game developers, the Canadian Game Awards will be open to everyone, with tickets now available. The ceremony will be held at the John W.H. Bassett Theatre at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre after previously being confirmed to be returning to the TIFF Lightbox following a successful show at the venue last year. Alongside the main show, the Canadian Game Awards also hosts a special “Eh! Game Showcase” featuring playable demos from a variety of Canadian indie developers.

It’s worth noting that the XP Game Summit was previously held in June, close to the annual Summer Game Fest events. Now, however, there’s a bit of space in between, giving them both more room to breathe. This year’s SGF will kick off on June 5 with a live presentation from the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.
