Apple is bringing Slide Over back to iPadOS 26

This is great and shows that Apple is listening

Since the start of the iPadOS 26 beta, I’ve seen one comment online over and over again: “Did Apple remove Slide Over?” The answer was yes, but now in the latest beta, which should be out for everyone soon, it’s back.

For those who are curious, Slide Over is Apple’s first form of iPad multitasking. It allows people to open an app in a thin window that can be pushed on and off the screen. This lets you have one or two apps on the main screen and then a third off to the side. This was great for taking notes and tons of other smaller tasks.

Even the top recent comments on this video are calling for Slide Over to return.

When Apple started revamping the iPad’s interface to be more like a Mac, it got rid of the feature since you can now open three apps in various other ways. However, since that implementation is less tailored to the iPad, you get less real estate per app, which can be annoying.

Right now, Slide Over has returned to the second developer build of iPadOS 26.1, according to MacRumours, so I expect this update to roll out to more of the public build in around two to four weeks.
