A new tweet from @sdw, Webastiaan the Sith, shows off how to switch between apps on the iPhone X.
Because the iPhone X can’t double tap the Home button to switch between apps, and considering the device doesn’t utilize the Home Button present on all other iPhones, Apple created another method of switching between apps with the upcoming flagship.

The above video showcases how iPhone X users need to arch their swipes while on the device’s home screen. This pushes aside the current app and the previous app to will take its place, creating the familiar carousel of apps.
While not shown in the video, users can also swipe on the home screen to create a recent app screen, similar to navigation that was featured in the ill-fated Palm Pre.
