Apple Park, the tech giant’s futuristic spaceship-like campus, is set to open in April

After years of development and delays, Apple will open its new campus, Apple Park, this April.

The new campus is located in Cupertino, California and its development has been tracked extensively during construction courtesy of drone footage. A few months ago, Apple also released its own images and videos of the $5 billion USD campus.

According to Apple, the 12,000 employees at the company will take around six months to move into the 175-acre spaceship-like facility. Construction is set to continue on buildings and parklands around the campus.

“Steve’s vision for Apple stretched far beyond his time with us. He intended Apple Park to be the home of innovation for generations to come,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s current CEO in a statement sent to MobileSyrup. “The workspaces and parklands are designed to inspire our team as well as benefit the environment. We’ve achieved one of the most energy-efficient buildings in the world and the campus will run entirely on renewable energy.”

Apple's new Steve Jobs Theater

Apple Park, which was originally designed by late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, features a 2.8 million-square-foot footprint and the world’s largest panes of curved glass.

Apple also revealed plans to name a new 1,000 seat theatre after Jobs. The theatre overlooks the main Apple Park campus building and surrounding parklands. Along with the new theatre, Apple Park also includes a public cafe, visitors center, R&D facilities and a large fitness center.

The entire facility is powered by 17 megawatts of rooftop solar power, making it one of the largest on-site solar energy installations in the world.

Apple also plans to use natural ventilation in the building and predicts that the facility will not require heating or air conditioning for nine months of the year.
