Apple TV designer Ben Keighran leaves Apple, plans to create new startup

Ben Keighran, an Apple designer who helped create the “look and feel” of the software and hardware featured in the 4th generation Apple TV, has decided to leave the company.

According to a report in Re/code, Keighran says he will start something new, but details surrounding his next move are unknown. “I want to create not just a killer product, but my own iconic company,” said Keighran in a statement.

Keighran co-founded search startup Chomp, which was purchased by Apple in 2012. At the time, the goal of the acquisition was to overhaul the iTunes and App Store search experience, which was eventually integrated into Apple TV.

Rumours indicate Apple has plans for further entries into the TV market, specifically with the launch of its own Netflix/HBO style streaming offering, although reaching deals with networks has reportedly proven difficult for the company.
